Hand crafted from Fir Wood, Tree of Lifeís exclusive Wood Carver got the idea for this Altar Shelf from talking with friends. He found a common complaint was that many people do not have enough space at their Altars. He designed this small shelf to provide a little more space near an Altar, while still lending to the sacredness of the space.
The Fir tree was originally revered as the sacred World Tree in northern Europe until replaced by the Ash. It is the tree of Immortality and is one of the 9 sacred woods for the Beltane fire. Fir grows very tall and slender outgrowing other trees in the forest to reach the light, hence they ëseeí over great distances to the far horizon. This magically translates to Fir being a transmitter of ones message upon the wind and also a receiver of things - Fir induces high views and long sights with clear vision of what is beyond and yet to come. It is best used for searching the gift of insight or inspiration, and also for bringing knowledge of past and future lives into the "now". Fir symbolizes malleability, cleverness, and the ability to change. It is a good wood for magick involving physical structures, forms, shape-shifting, or other changing magicks. Fir is excellent for Elevating, Grounding and Opening: Opening for psychic work, and for the Third Eye and Crown Chakra. Fir also has many healing properties: It is Antiseptic, Astringent, and Sedative, a Tonic for the glandular, nervous and respiratory systems and provides immune system care for colds and flu and is, therefore, good for healing magick. According to some ancient Scandinavian beliefs, the death of a fir tree on a property owner's land portends the death of that owner.
